The Asian badian tree was introduced to Europe at the end of the 17th century.
Its fruit, star anise, is shaped like an 8-branched star (carpels), with a diameter of 1 to 2 cm.
The fruits are picked green and take their reddish-brown color after drying.

Our perfect pairings : Star anise is used in the preparation of drinks, pastries and confectionery. It can be used whole, crushed or ground and goes perfectly with cinnamon and cilantro. In your savory preparations you will use it to flavor your broths, in marinades, with fish, shellfish, poultry, pork and duck.
In your sweet preparations, it perfumes pastries, fruit salads and of course gingerbread.

Star anise can also be used in spice blends, to flavor jams and chutney as well as your liqueurs and potpourris.
